From our Superintendent
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As you are aware, I will resume my semi-retirement status on June 30, 2009, and didn’t want to leave without saying goodbye. I believe we have made improvements both in programs and the facility since my arrival in September 2007 but what really matters is what you have experienced personally regarding services provided by the Nahant Public Schools.
Nahant Seniors blend seamlessly as students at Swampscott High
One of the questions often asked is how do
Nahant students fare as they move through the years in the Swampscott Schools, grades 7-12.
To help answer this question I’ve collected data from two years of rank in class given me by a very cooperative guidance department at Swampscott High School and post the following statistics.

2009 Walk for Hunger
According to Project Bread's 2008 Status Report on Hunger, more than 522,000 people in Massachusetts will struggle to put food on the table this winter. Download this year's report and make a tax-deductible gift at http://www.projectbread.org/statusreport.
Frequently, high school students and/or teachers will organize walk teams and will recruit a group of students and faculty to do the walk together.

New Traffic Flow
Starting December 8th 2008Reversing the direction to drop-off and pick up
Pre-K – grade 2 students will require all vehicles to enter the school site by the entrance near the primary level playground. Parents dropping off Pre-K-second graders will turn left in front of the school, stop at the curb and allow children to exit the vehicle on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. If older children are also passengers they may exit and walk around the cafetorium to enter school at the side entrance. Parents dropping off only students in grades 3-6 will continue around the school to drop-off their passengers at the side entrance. This procedure will begin on Monday December 8th.
Please note our changed traffic pattern.

We will not have adequate parking until a new "auxiliary parking area" is constructed so we’ve got to ask for full cooperation when you bring you children to school (please not before 7:45 AM). We will be implementing the early entrance into school for all children as colder more inclement weather arrives thus speeding up the time vehicles stop along the front curb to drop off children. To keep passengers and pedestrians safe, basic courtesy rules should be followed like using your directional and looking behind you before pulling away from the curb, pulling up as far as you can in front of the building to stop at the front curb, obeying the speed limit on school grounds which is 5-10 MPH and no stopping in the active driving lane to let children exit vehicles.
Superintendent’s Goals 2008-09

28, 2008
and I have posted my goals for the 2008-09 school year.
I can be reached by phone or email so never hesitate to contact me if

September 2008
Message from the Superintendent
The Nahant Public Schools provide a comprehensive education for students in grades K - 12 with a variety of programs and funding sources. The once privately run Periwinkle Preschool program, housed in the Johnson School, began its transition into the Nahant School District in September 2007 as an Integrated preschool and remains as a self-funded, tuition based program for children ages 3-5. Grades kindergarten through six reside in a newly renovated Johnson Elementary School while students in grades 7-12 attend Swampscott Middle and High Schools on a tuition basis. This contract will continue through the
2012-2013 school year and may be extended for another five years with mutual agreement. Extended day and summer opportunities are available for elementary students.
Please feel free to call or schedule a visit to the Johnson School should you have questions following your tour of our website.

Strategic Plan Update !!
As we develop a strategic plan for the Johnson School the Nahant School Committee
is looking for interested members of the community and school staff to volunteer for membership on this advisory committee.
The Johnson School Council reviewed the draft of the Mission Statement and Core values at their meeting on September 17th, school staff also reviewed the draft at their meeting on October 7th. The final draftversion was presented to School Committee at their meeting on October 14th.
The next step is to establish a committee that will assist the School Committee in the development of this Strategic Plan. Interested community members and school staff should email me, jlisi@johnsonschool.org Once the committee is formed this effort will span one year and require several meetings to complete .
